A Landmark Gone

 
 
 
 
It use to be so easy to say turn right at the oak tree with the mail boxes but no more. All the rain did in the mighty oak. Last night Jamie heard something but we ignored her - sorry Jamie. This morning we woke to a fallen landmark. Remember turn right at the mail boxes. Hopefully the mailman can reach some of the boxes.

Helmet Cam - Test #2

Used a little velcro to stabilize the camera a little. This is of Westridge fire road to Sullivan Canyon Singletrack, who would have thought this would only be 20 minutes from our house in LA.

Amgen Tour of California Solvang 2009

Solvang was great. The crowd was unbelievable...Who knew..... I really had fun and shot way too many pictures. There are 20+ of Lance Armstrong. I have to admit I was intimidated as he approached and did not zoom in like I did for many of the others. I held back and kept shooting... Oh well still learning.

Amgen Tour of California- Stage 4 finish, Clovis California

It was the most beautiful day in a long time and I got to spend the afternoon being awed by professional cyclists.

The riders started Stage 4 in Merced and made the 4+ hour trek by bike through the snowy hills of Oakhurst and Mariposa, and then zoomed into town at crazy speeds up to 60 miles an hour. I was able to watch with the thousands of others on a big screen as the peloton fought to catch up to the three leaders (who had a 5 minute lead but blew it at the end) and see the town I live in shown in such glory- never knew Fresno and Clovis looked so good on TV :)

I positioned my self half way down the last 600 yards and got a great spot on the rail. I waited i anticipation and then felt the huge gust of wind as a hundred or more cyclists speed past me inches away from my face- nearly ripping the camera from my hands (well not that close but it was just a little guard rail protecting my tootsies from getting rolled over which the event workers said had happened before).

I almost caught the main group of sprinters on video as they made their mad dash to the finish line but they came so fast I only caught a little of them and but got all of the second group of riders who had positioned their teams sprinters before they got to the final mile sprint.

Cavendish of Team Columbia-Highroad won the stage but he only won by a tire tread- it was unbelievable. I thought only horse races had photo finishes! Otherwise the overall race leaders have remained the same with Lance Armstrong in 4th. Who by the way I almost touched!!! He cooled off by riding down Live Strong Alley after the race but of course I couldn't get my camera out fast enough to get a snap shot of him :(

Ain't No Bako

Although it isn't Bakersfield, Fresno has had some really nice snow storms lately and here is the view today from one of the office buildings. I love after it rains how you can actually see the mountains and the sky is not a brownish blue!

Cool Birthday Present

Mike and Linda got me one of the coolest birthday presents. Here is the first test run of my new helmet cam. I apologize for the shaking, I still need to play with the mount. They give you some velcro that I think will really stabilize things.

A Chilly Beach Day!

Rhubarb Cake

I happened to find some beautiful rhubarb in the market this weekend and decided to make my mother in laws famous Rhubarb Cake. It is awesome and definitely needed to be passed along...

Ingredients:
1 yellow cake box mix
1 pint (2c) heavy cream
1 c sugar
4 c chopped rhubarb

Grease and flour a 13 x 9 glass pan
Make box mix according to it's directions
pour into floured pan

sprinkle rhubarb on top of batter

sprinkle 1 c sugar on top of rhubarb
pour all of heavy cream over top of batter, rhubarb and sugar

bake 350 for 75-90 minutes.

It is done when a toothpick comes out clean. Serve warm with whipped cream!

A view in Bfield??

On those rare days that you realize Bfield is at the southern tip of the Valley it can be quite beautiful. (Now there is a nonsequitur...Bakersfield & Beautiful...)These pictures were taken from the top of my office building looking generally east and southeast. There is snow on all 3 sides of us, down to about 1500 in the foothills. I only wish I had my primary camera as opposed to my bike camera....

It's a Girl!

Scott and I had our ultrasound on Wednesday and found out we are having a girl! They did some 3D images of her and got one of her sucking her thumb :o) We are so excited and cannot wait to meet her in July!

Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow!!

So it has been snowing at house for about 30 mins now and it doesn't look like it will be stopping anytime soon!!! Alas the Tahoe trip we were hoping for this weekend got the kabosh (50 and 80 both closed!!) So instead we are settling in for a white day here on Auberry Rd!! Here are some photos, Freddie doesn't quite know what to do with himself since this is the first time he has seen snow!!!

Happenings in the Creek

Your average week here at the Schneider's Creekside. A lovelorn bird spends his entire day at the window tapping away. Poor little bird.
Bear had an accident. We went for a long walk and during one of our running sections she took off. Literally. Got away and made a big loop at 90 mph and as she came out of the turn she caught a toe nail on a cement block hidden in the grass. She went one way the toe went the other shattering the little bone in her paw. Bear is now casted for one month. Drugs for the dog and drugs for us....hope we all make it.
There is also a new brewery that has opened in our kitchen. Join us for a Honey Ale. The house smells great right now.
Hope you are all off to a great start this week. Let us know we will be sitting here with the dog so she doesn't jump.

Hand Sanitizer

So I just put a new hand sanitizer in my book bag to use when I get off the bus. This morning after I used it, my thoughts went immediately to the 3 day...specifically to the pit stops after using the porta potty. It is funny how a smell can bring up such vivid memories :o) Just wanted to share that I was thinking of all you 3 day walkers :o)

Spoiled Puppy

So tell me, do you think that Freddie is a bit spoiled? Ever since the whole falling out of the car window debacle, Dad has let him curl up on the couch with us. It is hard to say no to such a cute little face but I think he is getting a bit too comfortable!
