When we hike on Angel Island we wonder why we don't do it more often. We had another great trip on the island yesterday. The Youngs had planned a trip to Tahoe but the weather and Grandma's urging to come instead to the Bay Area for Memorial day weekend brought them here. On Saturday we took the ferry from Tiburon to Angel Island. The hike is 5 miles....the first 1 is straight up. Creed and Grandpa took turns with the back pack. Grandpa seemed to be the better one to sleep on for Wyatt, who enjoyed a nap up to the top. Mt. Livermore is the peak where if we had prepared would of been a great picnic spot with its 360 degree views. We were lucky that by chance the USS Iowa was making its final sail out of the San Francisco Bay headed to a final berth in Los Angeles. The Iowa put on quite a show circling the bay and we got to see it from several sides of the island. As the Iowa headed under the Golden Gate Bridge it had the fire boats in full spray. It really gave us pause to reflect on this Memorial Day.
We also got to join in the celebration of the 75th birthday of the Golden Gate Bridge....no fireworks but viewing it in all its glory from the mountain top. What a beautiful setting. Happy Birthday GG!
We finished the hike at the Cove for hog island oysters and Lagunitas beers as live music played. We'd do this again!!
